Obituary for John T Muzzy

John T. Muzzy, Sr. “Bud”, 83, went home with the Lord on February 4; 2017.He was born in Providence, RI on August 13, 1933. “Bud” served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home after his service, he met and married Shirley (Bell), his wife of 61 years. In 1957, they moved to Melbourne, Florida and he started his career as a Security Police Officer for Pan Am World Airways at what is now known as Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. After 30 exciting years working in America’s space program, he retired in 1988 as Chief of Police. John continued to work over the next 20 years, holding a management position at Dillards and working for the Florida Marlins since their inaugural spring training season which allowed him to be around one of his passions – the game of baseball.

“Bud” was also heavily involved in the community as a baseball manager for many years in various little leagues and “Babe Ruth” leagues, the commissioner of the Catholic Schools Parochial League, and Melbourne Central Catholic Booster Club member/Past President. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan, joke teller, poet, music lover, and weekend golfer.

Above all else, he was a devoted husband, father, family man, and friend who could always be counted to be there for you whenever you needed a helping hand. He truly loved his family, friends, and all things about life. Words can’t describe how much he was loved or will be missed by those he that touched his life.

John was predeceased by his parents (Joseph and Opal), Brothers Michael, Donald, Harvey, and Joseph, Sisters Eleanor, and Alice, and grandson (Adam). He is survived by his wife Shirley, sons John (Ginger), and Steve (Tammy), daughter Kathleen, Sisters Dorothy (David), and Josephine, 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, Aunt (Gloria), nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 18, at 11:30 AM at Ascension Catholic Church in Melbourne, Fl. Immediately following the service, a reception in honor of John aka “Bud” will be held in the Buescher Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Williams Childs Hospice House via the Health First Foundation or Ascension Catholic Church.
