Charles “Rex” Peacock

Known by many as the “Best Barber in Town”

Rex was born on July 12, 1941 in Lacoochee, Florida to Ernest and Mary Frances Peacock. He moved to Melbourne, Florida in 1944 due to his father being transferred to Banana River Naval Station. Rex grew up in many local areas, including Melbourne, Valkaria, and West Melbourne before settling here in Eau Gallie. He attended Ruth Henegar Elementary and Junior High School, and Melbourne High School, graduating in the class of 1961.

Rex became a barber in 1965 and worked at his father’s barber shop, “Peacock’s Barber Shop,” on New Haven Avenue until 1967. He then moved to “The Barbershop” on Aurora Road where he worked for Mr. Acker as an apprentice barber until 1971 when he purchased the shop and renamed it “Commodore Barber Shop.”

Rex was widely known by many of the players, coaches, teachers, and staff members for his unique, personalized haircuts representing Eau Gallie High School and their many athletic programs . He has cut hair for many locals for as many as 50 years. For some, he has been their only barber.

Rex’s family includes his wife of 35 years, Chris Peacock, children Michele Peacock Knott (Jeff), Renee Peacock Stepp (Scott), Bruce Bell (Christine), Tina Dinkins, grandchildren Justin, Tyler, Michael, Clayton, Brayden, Devon, Claudia, great-grandchildren Chloe and Jayla, siblings Jim Peacock (Diane), Sylvia Ann White (Lee), John Peacock (Mary), Ronnie Peacock (Cindee), Ricky Peacock (Sherri), Mike Peacock (Erika).

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 14th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Discover Life Church, 3550 West Eau Gallie Blvd, Melbourne, FL 32934.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to William Childs Hospice House, 381 Medplex Parkway, Palm Bay, FL 32907.
