Obituary for Hugh Smith Jr.

Hugh Smith Jr.
Hugh “Jack” Smith, Jr. passed away peacefully on October 21, 2016, at the age of 88, surrounded by his family. Jack was born in Ithaca, Michigan on August 12, 1928. He enlisted in the United States Navy at a young age and met the love of his life, Rosalie, while stationed in Key West, Florida. They were married on December 8, 1950, and had two sons, Stephen and Kevin. Jack was a Professional Land Surveyor for 60 years and built Smith Surveying and Mapping from the ground up; a legacy that passed on to his sons.

Jack was a member of the Florida Society of Professional Land Surveyors, National Society of Professional Land Surveyors, and AOPA (Aircraft Owners Pilots Association), an honorary member of the NRA and of the Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club. He served faithfully as a member of the Eau Gallie Church of Christ.

Jack was preceded in death by his son, Stephen. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rosalie, his son Kevin (Cassandra), and granddaughter, Kelsey. He is further survived by his sister, Norma Mansfield, his brother-in-law, Bill Camalier and his wife Marie, his sister-in-law, Yvonne, and many nieces and nephews. Bill was more of a brother than “in-law” and Jack cherished their friendship and looked forward to their Saturday chats.

Per Jack’s request, there will be no funeral service. In honor of Jack, donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (www.mda.org) would be greatly appreciated.

Jack was the kindest, most considerate, unselfish, warmhearted, benevolent man that ever lived. He will be missed.
