Obituary for Elizabeth A Stang

Elizabeth A Stang
Our dear mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Stang, age 90, gently passed away on September 15, 2016 with her family by her side. She left us peacefully to meet God and rejoin our Dad and her love of 56 years, Russell C. Stang, who passed on October 9, 2004.
Betty was beautiful to all who knew her. She was born on December 31, 1925, in Sandusky, Ohio, the fourth child of Katherine Herb and John W. Parker. She was predeceased by her parents, sisters, Mary Carrigg, Etta Jean McAbery and brothers, William Parker and James Parker.
The few words written here to tell her story don’t seem adequate to describe the woman we all loved & who loved us back. Before marriage to Russ in 1948, and five children, Betty attended St. Joseph College in West Hartford, CT, later transferring to Bowling Green State University in OH. She also studied for & received her Realtor’s license for the State of Pennsylvania. In 1994 Mother & Dad retired to Melbourne, FL to be closer to family & to pursue old and new hobbies in warmer winters.
Betty enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest; always learning, always on the move, always with kindness & forgiveness. She adored and took special interest in each one of her children and their spouses, grandchildren & great-grandchildren - All are proud to be her legacy. She never forgot a birthday or special occasion. She shared friendship & good times with her bridge buddies. Betty loved to read & enjoyed many genres. She always loved to garden & in her spare time, loved to travel. Over the past 21+ years, her Church was very important to her. At Ascension Catholic, she sang soprano in the Adult and Resurrection choirs, was a member of the Monday Senior Group, the after-daily-Mass “Muffin Bunch”, the Adoration prayer group and the Ascension Retirees.
Betty is survived by her brother, John B. (Alyce) Parker, and her sister-in-law Sister Jeanette Stang, OP. She leaves her five children, their spouses, grand & great-grandchildren to cherish her memory and carry on family traditions.
Victoria K. Finch of Port St. Lucie, FL, Mark C. Stang of West Palm Beach, Christine A. Buendel (William) of West Palm Beach, Carolyn E. Harvey (Christopher) and Matthew P. Stang of Minneapolis, MN, her former daughter-in-law, Maria Stang, and former sons-in-law, Thomas Finch and Michael James, will always hold a special place in their hearts for her.
She will be missed dearly by her ten grandchildren - Eric (Alison) and Craig (Wendy) Buendel, Christopher Finch and Colleen (Mike) Schmidt, Timothy (Margaret), Kevin and Emily James, Alexandra and Michael Stang, and Erik Harvey, as well as her six great-grandchildren, Oliver and Parker Schmidt, Linley and Lane Buendel, twins Andrew and Nolan James, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. She loved them all with her great big heart.
Betty would like to thank all of the friends who visited her, connected with phone calls, sent flowers, candies or gifts. The family wishes to thank all those who cared for Mother, especially Vitas Hospice, Visiting Angels and everyone at The Fountains.
Donations may be made to Ascension Catholic Church or Vitas Healthcare.
Viewing will be held on Sunday from 4-6 PM at Davis-Seawinds Funeral Home, 560 Montreal Avenue, Melbourne, FL 32935, # 321 254-1532. A funeral Mass will be held at Ascension Catholic Church on Monday at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
