Obituary for Joan R Ebaugh

Joan Reddick Ebaugh came to be on this Earth on September 14, 1934 in Norwood, Colorado. Through over 81 years, she was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, an aunt, and even a high school cheerleader, amongst many other important roles. While these places in life can certainly provide purpose and relational meaning of Joan, she is better defined by who she was and how she did it throughout and between places and beyond.

Joan always accepted and celebrated others.

Joan dearly and deeply loved.

Joan was a giver.

There were no strangers at the Ebaugh house. All were invited to pull up a seat, have a cup of coffee, or join in for a good meal. You were family. And like a true family member, Joan would subtly let you know that you can help yourself, lest you confused a warm and open welcome to the family with doting customer service!

If you read deeper into that sentiment you will find Joan’s roots of growing up in Colorado. The values of self-reliance and taking responsibility certainly grew from the generations on the American frontier. We get our love and support from family and friends; you find your way by using that love and support to increase your own ability and skill.

With her husband, Joan was part of another frontier: Brevard County, Florida in 1957. It remained their home for the rest of her life.

Joan had a keen sense of finding the good in all of us. Rare would be the time when you weren’t told how important you are, what gifts you bear, and what makes you special. She also kept a fair balance in that regard with those close to her. If you asked one of her children whom she favored amongst them, they would probably mention one of their sisters or brother, making them all her favorite.

Joan was also a giver of her time to those in need. She volunteered extensively at Palm Bay Hospital and many other places in Brevard county.

Joan is the daughter of Glibert & Nora Reddick, sister to Patricia Catsimanes and best friend to Mary Landfried, all of whom greeted her in heaven on August 27, 2016, along with many others.

Joan continues to live through, influence, and inspire her four children, Linda, Lori, Terri, and Tim, along with her sons & daughter in law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, in-laws, and out-laws. She is survived, loved, and deeply cherished by Bob Ebaugh, her husband of 63 years and co-creator of what is and will continue to be a family with arms wide open.
